Family Learning

We try to offer many opportunities for parents to be a part of their children’s learning, and will often send useful information home, or share valuable information during our Parents’ Consultation Evenings.  The Parent Toolkit (link below) is a website full of ideas to help parents/carers and children aged up to 13 enjoy maths together.

Homework/Creative Take-Home Tasks

We encourage all children to take part in homework/extended studies with their parents/carers/family support.  In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, children are encouraged to share books/read with their parents on a daily basis and will also have some weekly literacy/ numeracy activities.  In Year 1 and 2, a creative take-home task is set once a term on a creative theme, which is a longer activity for families to share together.  In Year 3 and Year 4, daily reading, literacy e.g. spelling, numeracy and two take-home tasks a term are set.  In Year 5 and Year 6, some longer pieces of work will be set and creative take-home tasks are once a fortnight.  Children have a choice of tasks that they can complete but all achieve the learning outcome.

Extended studies at home encourage parental involvement in children’s learning and encourage children to prepare for and develop learning in school.
